What size rug for a dining table?
Chairs should stay on the rug when you pull them out, so the rug needs to be much bigger than the table.

The 60 cm rule
Rug Kingdom: add 120 cm to the length and width of the table (60 cm each side) so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. The Rugs Collection gives the same 60 cm figure.
| Table | Typical table size* | Rug needed (+60 cm all round) | Standard rug that covers it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 seats | 120 × 90 cm | 240 × 210 cm | 240 × 340 cm |
| 6 seats | 180 × 90 cm | 300 × 210 cm | 240 × 340 cm |
| 8 seats | 240 × 100 cm | 360 × 220 cm | Bigger than 240 × 340 cm: bespoke |
Rug Kingdom’s own example rounds down a little: a 160 × 90 cm table needs at least 280 × 210 cm, and it suggests 200 × 290 cm or larger. That is 10 cm short on width, so chairs at the ends of the long sides may just catch the edge. Its size table lists 160 × 230 cm for four-seat dining and 200 × 290 cm for six to eight.
Round tables
The same rule applies: a round rug about 120 cm wider than the table. A 120 cm round table needs a rug about 240 cm across.
Table sizes for each number of seats are on the dining table sizes page.
